Bethany Lee Stone Carver

Born and raised in Minnesota, Bethany is a sculptor, working primarily in stone, for whom drawing and painting form an integral part of her creative process. She holds a BA in sculpture (’03) from the University of Dallas, and she is a 2019 graduate from the drawing and painting program at the Florence Academy of Art (Jersey City location). 

Bethany currently resides in Washington, DC and maintains a studio in the Gateway Arts District in Brentwood, MD where she works on commissions in stone and cast materials as well as teaches stone carving classes.

It is of note that the artist has enjoyed the unmerited support and generosity of her family – support without which her artistic endeavors would not be possible.

When not in the studio, Bethany can often be found entertaining her nieces and nephew, reading at a local coffee shop, or wandering around in the woods somewhere in the Blueridge Mountains.

Brian Kirk Metal, Stone, & Rust Artist

Brian Kirk is fascinated by the compelling and delicate balance between human intent to direct desired outcomes versus the inevitable surrender to Nature's process of erosion and rebirth.  His metal sculpture harnesses reclaimed stone or steel that conveys industrial prowess and raw, bold  energy.  But as his rust art and prints show, there is also an ever-present acceptance of natural chemical reactions that--with time--enable simple elements of water and oxygen to disable even the strength of steel.

Glenn Richardson Chainsaw Artist

"I have more failures to my name than you can imagine. but this is one thing that I do well. I capture 17 minutes of your life in a plank of pine. No super powers or wealth involved. No high tech or computers involved. I am a real person carving real people, err, real wood to celebrate real people. 

I came up with the idea of live carving portraits at a festival in Florida called Loveburn in 2016. It was kind of a experiment, but it worked. I've carved more than 700 people by now and it's been getting more and more refined. 

in one respect this carving a portrait of the nation, one face, and interview at a time. 

Thats why I'm trading stories for portraits and sharing both with you as a vlog. Like carving the portraits, I have never vlogged before. I am depending on your honest opinions and input. That input includes venues and yahoos, err, folks you want to see carved. This sounds so Sweeny Tod. Its not. I have sawdust. "
